January 2008 at MGM

The shows...though emptier than I've ever seen, but not uncommon for January, I've been told, by those in the know, WERE AMAZING!!
Before I even get to TOM, the changes made nightly in the back vocals and band were outstanding.  They are crisp, and tightly blended. Everyone seems to have had there music tweeked just enough to make a HUGE difference.

The new guys,  Bill Churchville is an outstanding musician, and while I will sincerely miss Pete, Bill fits in like a glove. He is playful and looks to the audience to see if we're into it.

The first Bass player,  a mystery man as Tena pointed out...who LOOKED the part of a MOUNTAIN with LOTS of stage presence.  No Name though. I wouldn't have minded if he'd stayed just to watch him since I couldn't hear him anyway!!

The permanent bass player is Rick, the Italian Stallian.  I didn't catch his last name when he politely shook my hand one night.  Sorry guys!!  Anyway..our seats at stageside are horrible for hearing the baseline.  But Rick has personality on stage.  As the days progressed and he got more comfortable with the music that guitar of his started to swing around.  IMHO, I think he will be fun to watch and listen to!

NOW...............TOM>>>>>>>>>>>

The VOICE IS IN TIP TOP SHAPE!!!!!! :x:x:x
Night one....Tom poured his heart out to a dead audience....but he had a secret...TONY CURTIS...yes the TONY Curtis was in the audience.  I think that is the first time I've seen the audience FORGET that TOM was onstage for a few seconds!!!  Curtis is now a cute little old man...but his EYES...are still piercing blue lasers that shine!!  It was a privilege I'll never forget!..and Tom came and got his cigars once he realized that the bouquet was not flowers!! Held together with only a pipe cleaner he had to take them right from my hand.....yep...the hand tingled!! hahaha

Night two.....was a blast....even though I failed to convince Joe's Gram to come to the show..everything worked for the best and Denise G got to sit ring side with us.

As Denise G mentioned, Herman and Tony both stopped by....OMG ...but at the same time.  Tony did his appearing out of nowhere and scare the bejesus out of ya thing..and Herman...well..he can't walk two feet without getting noticed

We all had a blast being together.. TOM eyed Tena all night as she was just glowing and in TOM-ZONE!!  Dinner at Fiamma followed with the nicest friends a gal could ever ask for....  Thanks again Tena, Denise and Joe!!!  You are all really too much!

Night Three..OMG NIGHT THREE!!!! Tom's energizer bunny battery was stuck in mega high gear!!!  LORDY!!!!!!!!!  When it was time to do a little shake...he shook till till you thought your corneas were gonna burn!!   Everything was moving "if ya know what I mean!!!"  This went on the entire show.  ...and the voice was right there.  It was that super-show that comes once in a blue moon.  Now if I only had my camera going I'd SHOW you!!!!

Fast fordward to my last night there..NIGHT 5  ..I was back at table 7A and Laura and a mutual friend Anna were able to get 8A the last minute.  I saw another buddy,Bebe, stuck at 2a and knew there was an open seat at my table so we got her to move...but just as I did one of the ushers called me.....and said she had a birthday present for me.  TABLE 5A  I asked if there was room for 2 ..but she said no.  HELL...you never saw a woman grab up two glasses of water..her ticket and her purse so fast....as the lights were going down.  OMG..OMG OMG!!! I thought I  died and went to heaven.  What A SHOW FROM THAT TABLE!!!!  PLEASE DON"T HATE ME!!! Everynight I asked at the ticket counter if there was something more centered than what I had...this night was No expection.  I felt wierd be-bopping alone..but heck I was in heaven.  The English couple at the table were looking at me like I was from Mars...but the wife eventually joined in the fun somewhat.  And I could see Anna ....  Laura..were did you put yourself...you were at the stage the moved back so I couldn't " talk" to you! Oh well girl!  Tom gave another great show...so I know I good time was had by all

Last night ....sitting at Fiamma....Kerry had the champagned poured before I was in my chair....as usual...what a guy!!!  Bebe and I had a light dinner and sat and talked...and who showed up!!! YES YES!!! TOM!!!  After dinner I said hello to Don...who must have been scouping the bar....He said Tom said over dinner that I had been at several shows this week!! (oh dear!) hahaha Anyway..they were about to join us at the bar when a loud group of folks TOM knew suddenly appeared.    Bebe and I couldn't believe our bad luck...neither could Kerry...he said Tom would be sitting right here with you if THAT had not happened!Oh well.

I decided to go ask TOM for my 50th birthday hug. No Details.!  Bebe didn't go over in spite of my proding...(Bebe..you ROCK!!!!).. it was rather intimidating with that group there.  It was interesting to hear Tom chat away as just one of the guys

Tom...next time I catch ya like that...........................................:">

Vegas was amazing!

The Band was OUTSTANDING!

TOM was amazing!

oxoxooxoxo..

till next time..Janet

AC, NJ Hilton Hotel December 2, 2007

This show was smashing!  I am usually crammed up front and personal, but this time was in row seven dead center.

What you're asking??  Yes! And I loved it!  The acoustics way back here are amazing..and you can see everything...but I usually rather count wiskers on Tom's chin. hahaha

So Why am I so thrill...aside from the facts that the show was fantabulous....And that Tom's showed up at the same bar where some of the band was hanging...just where I was having a drink with a new TJ fan-friend...a woman I recognized from a Long Island show...and that TOM threw me a kiss in reply to mine..across the bar...well

I GOT A TOM-TON of PHOTOS....got to FLickr and check them OUT!!!!

Atlantic City August 2, 3, 4, 5th 2007

Sparkle!!!!!

Resorts Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey

Tom's voice has something new. Yes NEW !!   OKAY...more like rediscovered.... It's Sparkle.!!!!    I don't know what Sir Tom doing for his vocal cords these days...but the difference between now and December is astonishing.  The lightness, clarity, crispness when he calls upon it is there.  Even the notes in my beloved I'm Never Gonna Fall...are longer, stronger.....thrilling again.

Tom was perfect in his lyrics..he never seemed to forget were he was and that..combined his renewed vocal prowess. seemed to be energizing not just the audience but the band..THEY were enjoying TOM. It was that plain .. The leaner, still more energetic TOM brought the audience to new heights. The place was electric to a degree that AC doesn't usually see.   I'm not trying to paint a rose garden here.  I won't say TOM was wildly wonderful unless he was.......Stoned in Love was the only song that underwent revision after the first show...and the change was fabulous.

The Reason did not make an appearance in this set of shows: it was replace by With These Hands. I like both songs..but The Reason gives me chills. Git Me Some..is well....just too sexy and playful to last longer than the song goes without fainting!! And the standards are magical....there is NO ONE who can sing them anywhere near the way Tom does.

TOM's sense of humor held steadfast too in spite of the heat.....it was SO HOT that Tom was dripping even with the stage fans...and when he when to wipe his brow he sprayed the front tables with sweat...well..they cheered..so he did it some more..well this went on..and he figured he was Hot stuff...which we KNOW HE IS....so he jokingly blessed them with his sweat,,,making the sign of the cross..  The place went WILD!

Saturday and Sunday Tom had the folks of AC out of their seats..not just the back sections where dancing in more common...but all the way to the front where your expected to stay seated....It didn't matter this time..the whole place was up and looked more like a rock concert than any TJ show I'd seen. This should happen every time. TOM loved it. and deserves that kind of response from the audience..now if only we could get security at all the venues to let us!!

There were new merchandise items for sale..and some of the new posters made there way to the stage where Tom graciously signed them with out missing a note!

TOM thanks for the best time ever!!!
And to the band...wow wow wow...what a treat!!!
Rock on!

Long Island Fans

Newsday tracked me down and I was only too happy to tell them that the DVD was fabulous but that nothing compared to seeing TOM live now...that the voice was better...richer, fuller.  The COMPLETE entertainer was something to behold. Somehow we got from Tom's DVD to my sketch...and that story got twisted into this  article that ran in NEWSDAY TUESDAY  JUNE 26th, 2007.  .....Read on.....MONKEY SUITED???? Oh well....it's sort of cute anyway....

Long Islanders who love Tom Jones

By Cameron Bird
It's not unusual for Tom Jones to be loved by anyone, least of all past and present Long Islanders who have been tracking and mimicking his every move since he crawled from the murky pubs of South Wales to the limelight in arenas on the other side of the Atlantic.

Former Jericho turned New Jersey resident Janet Potter, 48, recalls wide-eyeing Jones' glow on "The Ed Sullivan Show" in 1965, calling her parents to the TV to catch his monkey-suited charm.

"He's going to be huge," she recalls telling them.

Later, when 16 sweetly came, Potter began strategically sneaking her own lithographic sketches of Jones onto the performance stage, where they would be lost under the lavish brassiere and panty piles. The ritual repeated itself for 32 years, evidenced by the hundreds of concert tickets Potter has collected.

"He has that intangible 'it' factor that people talk about," says Potter. "I'm not even talking about sex appeal or anything like that."

Until recently, however, Potter's efforts to flag down her hero's attention were fruitless.

That is, until she spotted him at an Atlantic City restaurant following a gig in February 2006. Although Jones was surrounded by bodyguards, Potter was able to find a maitre 'd who offered to take her newest lithograph through the wall of security.

On occasion, though, admirers have been able to catch a another side of the performer. Gary Kain, a 34-year-old fan raised in Wantagh, who has attended more than 30 concerts, says the few times he's gone backstage, he's been even more won over by Jones' surprising lack of pretension.

"He seems like a really appreciative, down-to-earth guy," says Kain.

But sex appeal is precisely the reason for which people fling their unmentionables at a Tom Jones look- and sound-alike named Harmik Kazanchian, known only as Harmik to most.

Harmik, 46 - who grew up on Long Island, but would not identify where - got his start as Jones' spitting image (Brillo pad 'do and all) at The Inlet, a now-defunct venue in Freeport. Today, Harmik sings and struts before sold-out crowds at the Four Queens in Las Vegas.

Though he credits his peers in high school for pointing out his uncanny resemblance to Jones, Harmik turns to the man himself for inspiration.

"Elvis left a lot of room for levity, while Tom has always remained classy and refined, unless you go down the path of the panties," he says.
